Aliso-Woods Canyon: Southern California

Has anyone ever ridden up by Laguna Beach? Everytime I take the toll road to cut out the 405 I see beautiful mountains zig zagged with trails to my left. Anyone ridden there or have some insight for me.

I saw some info on Aliso Woods Canyon, but I don’t think it is the same spt, but still looks like a neat ride.

Anyone?

There are about 7 really fun rides at that park. I lived there about 6 years ago and it was by far a favorite place to ride. From the parking area, it is about a 10 minute push to the trails, then it is wide open fun. Warning, it does get crowded and the best trail (way over at the west end of the park) can be a little tricky to find, it requires you to leave the dirt, ride through some residential area then reconnect, but it is so worth it.

Hello,

I think you are talking about Laguna Canyon. I have hiked there but not biked yet. It was beautiful. I did see some MTBs, but mostly hikers. I wouldn’t say it’s a great MTB destination if you live in North County, but it might be fun. Here are a coupla links:

As both previous responses suggest, there are two parks in the same area. Aliso/Wood Canyon and Laguna Wilderness (open weekends only). Both parks have a lot too offer for mtb’ers. The West-end trail that Robert is talking about is called Meadows. It is a fun trail that has a lot of flow. If you like technical riding, there are a few trails in both parks. Some trails are illegal so you might want to stick with the legal trails. Stair steps and Laguna Ridge are both legal and you can find info on both routes at http://www.geoladders.com. Be sure to select Orange County routes.
