For our lunch rides, we’ve been parking along the corner of Tamarack and Saddle Dr. There’s a small residental park there, and parking on Saddle Dr. side shouldn’t be a problem. Do not park on Tamarack! Signs posted “No Parking Bike Lane”…(kinda ironic.)

GROUP RIDE - SATURDAY, NOV. 11 @ LAKE CALAVERAS
At the request of SDMBA, I will be leading a ride throughout the Lake Calaveras region. For now, Lake Calaveras represents the best (only) riding opportunity available to us in the coastal region of North San Diego County. So, if you would like to become more familiar with the singletrack opportunities of the Lake Calaveras area come on out. The ride will start at the Calavera Hills Community Park in Carlsbad (near the eastern termination of Carlsbad Village Drive) at 8:30am on Saturday, November 11. All riders are welcome!!!!!!

Well, I’ve been riding Calaveras about 35 years…back then on a Bultaco, now on a Specialized. I don’t want to see it get crowded, but…you can also park at Oak Riparian Park off Lake. There is also some parking near apartments west of there but please be quiet and respectful of tenants.

Although not a real large area, there are some great short singletracks connecting old jeep roads. You can actually do some good loops with a lot of variety by working the cliff area and old MX areas on the north east, linked with some of the peripheral roads that go around the protected areas. A coupla hours of riding easily.

Unless you want to see it closed soon, avoid the posted & protected areas (south & west). Don’t break new trails in the chapparral. I think eventually it will be also sadly be shut down, tamed & re-trailed by CNLM, and eventually re-opened with far fewer trails. As great as the Flightline constructed trails were, I think constructed trails & obstacles here will only hasten closure.

Enjoy.
