Respect the temporary closure
As much as we all would like to ride the trails, we need to approach this in a civil manor if we hope to change the current situation…this means showing the powers that be that we are organized, respectful, and represent a demographic that not only respects authority, but knows that by taking the proper measures we know how to influence those who make decisions about our trails.
So please respect the closure. We can make it temporary.

I know I am not the first person to say that not being able to ride flightline while we are trying to keep it is going to suck…

one of the local riders is making a sign to be posted right below the no trespassing sign. It will spell out exactly why it is in everyone’s best interest to adhere to the request. I know I will and being on call at the hospital means I can’t go anywhere bitchen but have to ride the boring local stuff. If I can refrain than I expect compliance all around. I am contacting a lawyer tonight to talk about an injunction. I really would like to have any demolition wait until we are granted an audience with the county people. A meeting with a trail walk thru with the county trail coordinator is for next week. Keep the petition going strong.

Can you make it more clear how to blog please. Hey, maybe you will get more input if you make it easy for people to do it. Maybe a “add a comment” link or something. I made a lucky guess to get to this section of the site where I could write to you. I want to thank you for all your effort in making the site so please take this as a positive comment.

I agree that we need to be respectful and help out the land managers to the extent we can. However, I question how temporary the ban is. I haven’t heard anything about when the park is intended to be reopened. Waiting a few weeks to ride our favorite trails is a small sacrifrice if something good is coming out of it. However, when can we expect to hear a decision? What are we to do if this drags on for months? Perhaps you can list on this site an estimated time for flightline to reopen. I think that would make the wait much easier. It also gives us something to come back to the land manager with when they drag their feet…because chances out they will.

Dear Tom Those are things only Markus can answer. E-mail him directly at cnlmmarkus.com When I 1st spoke with him he said a crew would be hired for the first part of November to deconstruct the trails. So the sands of time are running. A meeting with him seemed forth coming but then he went on vacation. The big Thursday meeting he couldn’t make. The police did but sadly didn’t have any info about the trails other than no trespassing. Then he said the next week would be taken up with some new hiring he had to do. I did get the contact with Maryanne Vancio the county trail coordinator from Markus. E-mail her to find out she is on vacation. Wait another week. I called her the day she was back and found out she didn’t know where the trail was or what the issues were. So she has to do a lot of home work to get up to speed. The long and the short of things is you can see why the wheels of government like a large business turn so slowly. Meanwhile on the farm a crew of workers are being hired to tear out the trails. AT the rate that things are moving we may not find out if flightline will remain flightline before the trails are removed. During the interim you will have had to exercise self control and not ride it. I like a lot of others have no light left in the day to go anywhere to catch a ride either. So I have no time table for you to hang your hat on. I wish like everyone that the decision to remove the trails could wait while the alternatives were examined and considered. But as time runs out and the wheel turns slowly the only thing you have is hope. Maybe the big break in the obstacles is just a day away. I want to be positive. If They take out our favorite trails and we end up simply not riding them for the last month of their existence then my apologies BUT IF YOU DIDN’T RIDE THEM you also have my thanks for trying.

Here’s a response I just received from Markus to an email I sent him asking when we can expect flightline to reopen. His response does not leave me with much hope about the immediate future. It doesn’t sound like he’s is very excited to help us in the short term.
Richard, do you have a lawyer to work on the injunction you mentioned? Do you need some recommendations?
it could be over a year, but i can’t say right now, it will depend on many factors,

Subject: Flightline reopening
Markus,
My friends and I have been respecting the temporary closure of flightline. Albeit hard we understand the need to help you out to have the trails reopened. However, it is like waiting for Christmas but not know what date it falls on. Can you please give us an indication when we can start enjoying the trails again.
Thanks
