Carlsbad City Hall Meeting - We Need You There!

Dear Flighline Enthusiasts

We have been making progress and now we need your help to keep the ball rolling!

There is a meeting on the 23rd at CARLSBAD CITY HALL, 6:00PM, 1200 CARLSBAD VILLAGE DRIVE. I am going to ask the city to think about taking over flightline and help us regain access. I want a large group of us to show up, then we most definitely will get their attention!

Come to the meeting on Tuesday! Let our voices be heard!

We Need Your Support at a City Meeting!!!

There is an upcoming meeting that we will need EVERYONE to attend. I will be posting all of the details of this meeting shortly as well as sending out an email blast to everyone on our mailing list.

Stay Tuned!!!

Trying to Communicate…but with who?

Dear Trail Coordinators
There is a lack of definitive direction happening. Last week mike grim seemed to be saying Markus of CNLM had the power to change the CE allowing us to access it. Meanwhile Markus has directed us to ask either the city or the county. We have sent the letter to the county I believe. I was interviewed by Micheal Turko. I haven’t seen it but I think frustration due to a clearer path of action was my point. Can some one help us get a firm start?

KUSI Helping Publicize SaveFlightline

Michael Turko and his KUSI Turko Files is helping our cause! After numerous emails and phone interviews, Michael Turko is helping us to Save the FlightLine Mountain biking trails. Last Friday he met with Richard and Minnett and interviewed them at the parking lot behind the Carlsbad police station and fire department where we all used to enter the trail. I put a copy of his video clip below so everyone can see that all our hard work is paying off. We are powerful in numbers!

Meeting This Friday

Everyone;

The meeting this Friday is not a public meeting. We don’t need everyone for this one, but we will need everyone for a meeting coming up towards the end of January that is a public meeting. I will keep you in the loop about the results of this Fridays Carlsbad meeting and will let you know when we need a “CALL TO ARMS!!!” at the public meeting.

Donations: We appreciate the overwhelming response and offers of donations, but at this time we are not accepting donations, but if we ever get to that point, we’ll let you know in the newsletter and on the site.

Thanks again for your continued support to Save FlightLine Trails in Carlsbad.

Email From KUSI’s TURKO FILES

damn! i thought the battle was lost, and then i stumbled on your website with the latest info.

sorry i lost track of this story last fall. but now i see it as an example of an exercise in grass roots democracy. also, and MOST IMPORTANT i may be able to get some interest from college students who could conduct the biological survey as a class project under the direction of a professor. looks like you will need this survey done, if my read on bureaucrats is on target.

PS– the photos of the trails on the website really make the story work.

Trail Identification Response from CNLM

We will be gps’ing the trails in the next month or so. We’ll send you a map when we’re done.
Also, the County has said (as per my previous emails) that you will first have to have some governmental entity (either the County of City of Carlsbad) to be willing to accept a Trail Easement on the property, which assumes long-term maintenance and liability of the trails. If either jurisdiction decides to accept a trail easement, they will have to have to see the maps, have a biological impact assessment prepared, public review and other items. That will lead to an amendment of the CE, if this needs to be done at all. In other words, if your group creates a trail easement footprint and mitigates for the impacts, the Trail Easement will be essentially removed from the Center’s management obligations and will not be part of the CE footprint. No public access will be allowed off-trail, so the CE language remains the same. That’s how I understand it, but it is confusing.
I still think you should set up a meeting with all the parties (City, County, us etc) so that you don’t waste time and get the exact direction of action from all the groups.

Carlsbad City Meeting

I am going to attend the Friday meeting at 1635 Faraday 11:00 am to propose Flightline as an open space acquirement by the city of Carlsbad.

Trail Identification

Dear Markus
We have sent a formal request to Maryanne Vancio to initiate the amendment to the CE allowing recreational use. I would like to begin the process of describing the trails at Flightline by GPS. I understand this could possibly put the cart berfore the horse because we don’t even have the CE changed yet. But I am willing to donate my time and labor before the fact. I am working in association with the SDMBA if you need to assign my efforts to a group. I will be waiting to hear from you.
Sincerely Richard Julien

Meeting of SDMBA Tuesday the 19th

I attended the meeting of  SDMBA Tuesday the 19th. Minette put Flightline on the agenda and between myself and her we described where we were at this juncture. Support of SDMBA was given. The letter written by Ryan Dynes will be read critiqued and sent to the county to ask for an amendment to the CE. I read some of the more “radical” views concerning Flightline on Mtbr.com. Please submit them to the web site rideflightline.com. The moderator has said all views will be presented. I feel any perspective thinking outside the box is good for thought, provoking new ideas and testing current ones. Flightline is being proposed by the people behind the Calaveras preserve movement to be purchased as open space. There is a meeting for the proposal on the 12th of Jan at Carlsbad City Hall on Faraday at 11:00 am. SDMBA plans to be there and so should Flightline mtn bikers. I also just found out about the need to fund the purchase of the open land called The Sherman Parcel. Apparently 10 dollars is committed for every 1 dollar donation. I asked Diane Nygaard of Preserve Calaveras to send the info on this to rideflightline.
