Meeting of SDMBA Tuesday the 19th
I attended the meeting of SDMBA Tuesday the 19th. Minette put Flightline on the agenda and between myself and her we described where we were at this juncture. Support of SDMBA was given. The letter written by Ryan Dynes will be read critiqued and sent to the county to ask for an amendment to the CE. I read some of the more “radical” views concerning Flightline on Mtbr.com. Please submit them to the web site rideflightline.com. The moderator has said all views will be presented. I feel any perspective thinking outside the box is good for thought, provoking new ideas and testing current ones. Flightline is being proposed by the people behind the Calaveras preserve movement to be purchased as open space. There is a meeting for the proposal on the 12th of Jan at Carlsbad City Hall on Faraday at 11:00 am. SDMBA plans to be there and so should Flightline mtn bikers. I also just found out about the need to fund the purchase of the open land called The Sherman Parcel. Apparently 10 dollars is committed for every 1 dollar donation. I asked Diane Nygaard of Preserve Calaveras to send the info on this to rideflightline.

Here is a suggestion:
Think of Flightline as core destination as part of the City and regional trail map.
Flightline cannot survive in the exact same way it was before, if only because of the reality of the grading and so forth, and the limitations on more radical technical aspects that are imposed by common sense, building codes, EIRS, insurance guidelines, and all that other real world stuff that land managers elsewhere have to deal with on their land. That is a fact, and the sooner everyone gets on with the grieving process the better.
But if you can let go of that, and think of a rebirth with a little different vision, we might be able to have much of what you do love about Flightline -
-a hidden jewel of peace that many can get to on foot, bike, horseback and share that secondary use on this land with respect for its primary purpose, habitat preservation.
- some technical aspects for interesting riding. I think there is a lot of room for learning on both sides, but it will take step by step, and who knows like one other poster mentioned, this might create the model for a bigger better Flightline(s) elsewhere.
-shared support by many entities, the City, the County, the landowner, the land manager for creating a land use model that is a huge success story.
There are many win-wins here.
- part of a key north/south connector for the City and Regional trail maps. If you havent seen the maps, go look at them.
- hiker/biker/equestrian use here and nearby - wouldn’t it be great to take the best of the lessons learned in Los Pen and apply them here, without all the difficulty up front.
Remember, we are all neighbors here, and when this is all said and done, we want to remain friends, ideally, having worked through the challenges together, in a respectful collaborative way.

You need to clarify exactly where the meeting is on the 12th.
You note City Hall as being on Faraday - it is not- its on Carlsbad Village Drive behind the library.
The Planning offices are on Faraday.
Where is the meeting?
