Letter from CNLM
Hi Minette and Richard,
The demolition of the “northern track” started this week and we’ll have removed all the structures by today and have it replanted with natives by mid next week. This is per the County’s demands. The total cost of removal and replanting will exceed $20,000 when all is said and done.
I know this is not what you wanted to hear, but it had to be done and we were required to do it. Although we took down some structures in the eastern trail (not much), we are leaving this trail as a future public trail after improvements are made to it. I think that it is a fair compromise considering these trails were illegally built.
So now what from here? As I have said, I am willing to work with you to amend the CE to allow biking on the County property. It may be as simple as a letter from the County, but we will have to work this issue out with the County.
We will also have to delineate a formal trail system. As you will see, or probably know, most of the existing mtn biking tracks will be taken out by the development in the next couple years. But there is plenty of trail left over. However, they will have to be connected and likely new trails built.
This is what I suggest, and yes, it may take over a year to hash out.
1. Have your group put together a letter to us and the County requesting that mtn biking be allowed on the County property.
2. Allow the Center to map all existing trails on aerial photographs using GPS.
3. Get input from your group on trails to save and trails that are not needed (if any).
4. Propose to the County any new trail improvements and provide details of any necessary structures.
This is very simplified, but it’s a start.
Attached is the CE, which was quitclaimed to us (another document) about a year ago.
Take it easy,
